Masterplanning

Representatives from the group have been meeting planning and highways officers throughout 2005 to try and resolve outstanding issues. Additional transport work has been commissioned by independent consultants Meyer Brown to recommend the best option for the Cross. This will form part of the final Urban Design Strategy report with a version of option 4 likely to see the light of day (see pdfs below).

Unfortunately the status of the whole masterplanning exercise has been downgraded from supplementary planning guidance to an 'informal' planning framework due to Government changes to the planning system. This is regrettable & frustrating, but it seems there is little we can do about it. However, developer interest in the many sites identified for housing however is growing with Bridge House on Endwell Rd about to see a new planning application for a 5 storey warehouse residential conversion with commercial and retail on the ground floor. The scheme, shown at the BXAG's AGM for the first time is an interesting one, although the developer has been unable to persuade the shops under East elevation of Bridge House to sell, thereby thwarting a one off chance to develop the whole site.
